TCC Ford ASSET Program

STEVE WHITNEY: GUYS, WHAT
WE’RE GOING TO BE DOING TODAY IS WE’RE GOING TO
BE DOING AN EXTENSION OF LEAK DOWN TESTING,
POWER BALANCE TESTING… I TELL MY STUDENTS I
SPENT 45 YEARS FIXING CARS, NOW I BREAK CARS SO THAT THEY
CAN FIGURE OUT WHAT’S WRONG WITH THEM AND FIX THEM. I’VE ENJOYED WORKING ON
FORD AND I’VE WORKED ON FORDS A NUMBER OF YEARS,
I’M PRESENTLY A SENIOR MASTER TECHNICIAN WITH
FORD MOTOR COMPANY. FORD DOES A LOT IN THEIR
TRAINING LINE TO GET THEIR TECHNICIANS TRAINED,
IT’S A WONDERFUL PROGRAM. PUT THAT PLUG BACK IN THERE,
RE-TORQUE IT. I WAS ASKED IF I HAD ANY
INTEREST IN TEACHING AND A GUY GETS UP MY AGE AND
WORKING THE BUSINESS THAT LONG, IT TAKES ITS TOLL ON YOU
AND IT’S REALLY A NICE WAY TO TRANSITION TO SHARING THE
KNOWLEDGE THAT I’VE GAINED OVER THE YEARS
WITH FUTURE TECHNICIANS. SO CONSIDERING I SUSPECT
A COIL AND A SPARKPLUG… THIS PROGRAM TAKES
STUDENTS THROUGH THE START OF THE AUTOMOTIVE PROGRAM TO
UNDERSTANDING ALL THE SYSTEMS THAT ARE USED IN THE
VEHICLES AND TAKES THEM RIGHT UP TO THE HIGH-END
ELECTRONICS AND MECHANICAL ASPECTS OF AUTOMOTIVES. WHEN I GET STUDENTS IN
AND THEY DON’T KNOW SOMETHING ABOUT A SYSTEM, AND, YOU CAN
TELL WHEN THEY UNDERSTAND IT, IT’S THAT LIGHT GOES OFF AND
I THINK THAT’S PRETTY MUCH AS SATISFYING AS WHEN I WAS
WORKING ON CARS FIXING A CAR, SO, FIXING STUDENTS
INSTEAD OF CARS NOW.
