2020 Toyota Yaris Hatchback: First Impressions — Cars.com

when you think about sub compacts and
hatchbacks they don’t exactly suggest fancy nice cars and when you combine
those two into a subcompact hatchback well mostly it just suggests an
econo box but let’s think outside the Econo box here because Toyota’s got
potentially a lot of value in terms of just features for what’s likely to be a
low price in the all-new Yaris hatchback now I know what you’re thinking wait a
minute Toyota already has a Yaris hatchback well this is a redesign of it
that’s now based on the same platform as the Yaris sedan both of them stem from
the not for us Mazda 2 so got all that bottom line of the story is that this
car and the RS sedan basically have the same interior and most of the same
exterior now that means you get a lot of features for the money and a pretty
interesting interior design just in terms of materials and kind of some of
the overlapping stuff more interesting than your typical subcompact car which
this remains one significant bummer I’ve got to mention here though the prior
Toyota built Yaris has back that had a lot of standard safety features
automatic braking lane departure warning systems the new Yaris because it’s on a
Mazda platform doesn’t have any lane departure warning and the automatic
braking and it only works up to about 18 miles per hour so it’s kind of a city
only system so a little bit of a step backwards there but it is all standard
but let’s get back to those features lots of standards here keyless access
with push button start 16-inch alloy wheels a 7-inch touchscreen apple
carplay and android auto nice to see coming from a toyota product all that
will be available for again what should be a pretty reasonable starting price
once the Yaris hatchback goes on sale in fall of 2019
