Hello everyone Welcome to my garage In this channel One guy who resigned a company will repair tons of junk cars and motorcycles that I’ve been collecting for 20 years It may be niche but that’s what I’m trying to Today it’s the first round Here is the first one, 1964 Meguro Stamina K1 500 “Unemployed garage” When you hear “Meguro” I guess young people has no idea what it is Meguro motorcycle used to exist in Japan until mid 60s, but unfortunately was merged into Kawasaki due to their finance issue In a nutshell, this is kinda ancestor of recent Kawasaki big parallel twin Like W800 that you may know Meguro failed to catch a trend of small motorcycles in 60s and finally gone Starting with this K1, they introduced K2 later after that K2, they launched famous Kawasaki W1 Special According to the story I heard The price of Meguro was too high at that time Probably 4M~5M Japanese Yen as of today’s value It was such a very expensive bike So ordinary consumer couldn’t afford this expensive bike For this reason most of the customers of Meguro was Police department My Meguro K1 used to be Police motorcycle too I believe it was used for escorting previous Tokyo Olympic in 1964 We’ll have Tokyo Olympic in 2020 again! Let’s see wether I can swing by up-coming Tokyo Olympic by this Meguro That’s my personal goal It is said Meguro is a copy of famous British motorcycle BSA Actually it’s very look alike BSA A7 or A10 Shift pedal is in opposite side (right) Carburetor is popular British carb AMAL, but it was licensed and manufactured by Japanese company Mikuni at that time You’ll see license plate on a front fender It’s very British like motorcycle actually I got this Meguro two years ago then I’ve been riding for a while it started making some noise after high speed ride It’s a bad tone now… Idling is not really stable these days Tappet making annoying noise So I stopped using it and has been sitting here for a while This time, I’ll try to repair all issues and going to have legal inspection to get back for street again Well… I believe the basic elements of the gasoline engine Good air-fuel mixture, good compression, good spark, then it’s gonna be fine The air-fuel mixture will be carburetor tuning Compression should be okay because it was actually running But I’ll give some adjustment on tappet Spark will be managed by ignition When those elements are completely tuned and work fine, my Meguro will be totally fine I believe Another issue is too weak headlight and some minor issues exist but they can be fixable afterword Today, I’m gonna disassemble carburetor and check it out how it looks like I tried to overhaul the carburetor but.. It looks like… Very bad shape! This is a slid vale of it but Terrible condition! that’s too bad.. Somehow, sliding part looks like melting out.. don’t know why.. I guess this is the reason why it didn’t run well Damage is way more I could imagine.. I checked other parts too but It’s end of life unfortunately.. By the way, as I mentioned earlier this AMAL was licensed by Mikuni “392” stands for “MIKUNI” (in Japanese)… how come you needed to joke here.. Anyway, it doesn’t work anymore I wanted to use original one by overhauling it however, it is too much damaged… melted? scratched? don’t know but it’s done… Well, it has been working since 1964, no wonder such a damage I have to give it up anyway I assume this is the reason why it was not feeling good when the engine is hot probably heat expansion worked something bad here yeah…I think this is it air leaking happens a lot around here When it’s becoming hotter, it’s goes worse that’s why how much effort I spent on idling adjustment, it was running not really good after high speed run That’s too bad! I expected easy fix by carburetor Unfortunately my idea won’t work anymore You can find the same Mikuni in the market but it’s not easy to find good one rarely see these days This AMAL mono block is still manufactured in England as reproduction however, I heard that the reproduction AMAL is having a quality issue So I don’t want to use that reproduction What should I do…? Let me think a little bit It’s becoming harder.. I’m gonna figure out a solution until next time.
